What does a Mexican agency actually charge a US client?
Short answer: not the same as they charge a Mexican client, and not 80% less than a US agency either. The real price sits between those two extremes.
What the public data actually shows
| Service | US average | Real Mexican nearshore |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly SEO | $3,209 USD/mo (Ahrefs) | $500 – $10,000 USD/mo (Marketing México, Tijuana) |
| Website | $2,000 – $15,000+ USD | $3,000 – $15,000 USD |
| Hourly rate | $100 – $149 USD/hr (Clutch) | $25 – $49 USD/hr (Clutch, Mexican domestic baseline) |
| Social media | $2,500 – $7,500 USD/mo | $900 – $3,000 USD/mo |
The "hourly rate" row is the most misleading one: $25-49 USD/hour is what Clutch reports for Mexican agencies overall, but that's the domestic Mexican market rate. A Mexican agency invoicing a US client directly — in dollars, with an English contract — typically charges more than that, while still coming in below a US-based agency.
Why "cheapest possible" is a bad sign
Marketing México, a real Tijuana agency serving San Diego, publishes a $500-10,000 USD/month range for SEO, with full packages up to $50,000/month. That pattern repeats across every serious nearshore agency: the real discount is 40-60% versus a US agency, not 70-80%.
Charging Mexican-domestic prices to a US client generally reads as a sign something doesn't add up — not a cost advantage, but a red flag about quality or business sustainability.
What a well-built nearshore price should include
Beyond the work itself, a properly priced nearshore engagement includes:
- USD invoicing and an English-language contract
- A team working on your schedule (Guadalajara runs on Central Time, the same zone as Texas and Chicago)
- The right tax paperwork (W-8BEN-E) so your accountant can process a foreign-vendor payment without friction
If you're quoted something "impossibly cheap" with none of that, you're probably paying for something other than what you think.
